Moriya, Japan Student Program

Did you know the City of Greeley and Moriya, Japan, have been celebrating and fostering a Sister City relationship for more than 20 years? Every odd year summer the City of Greeley sponsors approximately ten high school students to visit Moriya, Japan, as part of a student exchange. During even years, Greeley students host Moriya students.  The program has been on pause since 2020 and the Covid19 Pandemic, but in we hope for a return of the program soon.

Megan Weiler, Cultural Affairs Division Manager, speaks to the importance of the program's return,

"After a pause since 2020, the Moriya–Greeley Sister Cities Program is relaunching with renewed energy. Guided by a dedicated Sister City Committee of passionate Greeley residents, organizations, and business representatives, we are reigniting friendships, cultural exchange, and opportunities for our communities to grow and celebrate across borders.”

The Sister City Student Exchange Program is a wonderful opportunity for students from both cities to explore each other's country and learn more about their cultures, traditions, and way of life.

Get Involved

Hosts are needed for the program when it returns. Hosting is a rewarding way to:

  • Share your family’s traditions and everyday life with a student from Japan.

  • Provide a welcoming home and meals outside of the daily Sister City program activities.

  • Build lifelong friendships that continue across cultures and continents.
