Heavy equipment lowers pipeline into place

GREELEY, Colo. — The City of Greeley is set to receive an $8,685,000 federal FEMA matching grant for the Gold Hill Pipeline Project.

The Gold Hill Pipeline, located west of Highway 257, will help Greeley provide safe, reliable water during emergencies, natural disasters and planned maintenance. It will also help meet future water needs as Greeley continues to grow.

The project is fully designed and permitted, with a total cost of about $20 million. A previous federal grant was canceled when FEMA ended the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program in 2025. U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans and his staff helped the city secure a replacement grant through the Pre-disaster Mitigation grant program and the 2026 budget appropriations process.

“Greeley takes great pride in the quality and reliability of the water we provide for our residents and businesses,” Mayor Dale Hall said. “The Gold Hill Pipeline is critical to strengthening our water system, and we are very grateful for the congressman’s persistence in helping secure this matching grant for Greeley.”

The Gold Hill pipeline is a 60-inch pipeline linking Greeley’s two treated water transmission systems. This connection will make water service more reliable across the region, especially during emergencies like the 2020 Cameron Peak Fire. It will also help nearby communities connected to Greeley’s system through emergency interconnection pipes.

“We are thrilled to receive an $8.6 million FEMA matching grant to build the Gold Hill Pipeline and improve water system reliability for our city, its industrial manufacturing and food producers and for the region,” said Sean Chambers, director of Water Utilities. “I am concerned about the risk of the wildfire season ahead and how it may impact our water supplies. This important pipeline will make Greeley’s water system more resilient and support our service to primary employers that depend on reliable, high-quality water. I sincerely appreciate the congressman’s strong advocacy on behalf of Greeley.”
